Date: Monday, September 14th-October 5th, 6:30-8:30

In this four week course students will learn the basic fundamentals of storyboarding from Breanne Butters– previously a storyboard revisionist at Dreamworks Animation. We will go over thumbnailing, acting, shot staging, cuts, and continuity and work on a storyboard in class. This class is for you if you want to improve or jumpstart your sequential storytelling skills which can be applied to animation, comics, or live action content. Previous drawing experience is recommended but not required. Storyboarding paper and pens will be provided to complete exercises traditionally, but students should feel free to bring a laptop or ipad if they prefer to work digitally.

Do you love to draw but overthink your work? With Caricatures 101, instructed by the founders of Kitty Cowgirl Caricatures, you will learn to translate 3D forms into a 2D cartoon. This is a fast-paced weekly course that features hands-on instruction with live models.

Have a project you can’t seem to find the time to finish? Want to learn a new skill but can’t seem to focus on it? Try out the Accountability Boot Camp (ABC), where you pay $50 to enter and receive $45 back if you meet your goal by the end of the study session.

How this works:

  1. Check in at the front table and communicate a goal with the Des Moines Art Academy Representative. It is your responsibility to make sure this is a reasonable goal that can be accomplished in the given time span of the Boot Camp.

  2. Pay $50 after goal is communicated and written down. This is your Accountability Deposit. To receive $45 back, you must prove that you accomplished your goal.

  3. If you do not meet your goal, you do not receive any money from your Accountability Deposit back.

  4. If you meet your goal, you receive $45 back.

FAQ:

  • Can I get my money back if I attend the next boot camp and meet my goal?

    • Nope! All money paid is only for the singular session.

  • Can I bring snacks?

    • Yes! You are welcome to bring drinks and snacks. Snacks will also be available for purchase on site.

  • Can I come study focus without paying?

    • No. You must pay the full $50 in order to enter the study session; However, you may set an incredibly easy goal to meet so you are basically guaranteed to receive $45 back.

  • Can my kids attend?

    • This event is for adults only. Older teens may come unattended, but we are not responsible for your children nor are they allowed at this event.
